<p>Soundcare® SuperSpike standard models: The standard SuperSpike is proven to be extremely effective on all Hi-Fi equipments. Soundcare® SuperSpike is a low cost upgrade that will make a major difference to the sound quality of any system. The Standard SuperSpike is made in shiny and black finish.</p>
<p>How it is designed</p>
<p>All Soundcare® spikes are spikes with a rounded tip (0,5 mm in diameter) standing in a crater with</p>
<p>a flat bottom. In this way we get a very small contact area combined with enormous strength.</p>
<p>Load tolerances is only of theoretical interests. For standard spikes you can put 400 kg per spike,</p>
<p>for the TITANIUM models even more.</p>
<p>The Soundcare SuperSpike is an assembly of :</p>
<p>An outer, sturdy, clean looking housing of ABS plastic (standard version) or polycarbonate (High-End version) (1).</p>
<p>Spike made of first class case hardened steel (2).</p>
<p>Zinc casing (3) that reduces resonances in the spike and is specially designed to hold the plastic housing when the equipment is lifted.</p>
<p>Zinc disc (4) with a mild steel insert (5).</p>
<p>Self adhesive felt disc made from 1,25mm quality felt with permanent fairly high coatweight tape.</p>
<p>Double coated tape, 3M 9573 high performance permanent tape (only the self adhesive version).</p>
<p>Lock nut. (only the threaded versions).<br />

<td>A calibrated loudspeaker has been fed with a sinus wave on each frequency level. The loudspeaker has been placed upon a calibrated pressure sensitive microphone. For each frequency the signal is fed through the loudspeaker and the output level is adjusted to specific level which is referred to as 0 dB. Then the spike is placed between the loudspeaker cabinet and the pressure sensitive microphone. The same signal with the same output level is used. The level from the microphone is then measured. The direct sound through air from the loudspeaker to the microphone is never measured louder than –30 dB for any of the frequencies. The curves will therefore show the approximate transmission of energy from loudspeaker cabinet through the spike and down to the microphone.<br />
In words the damping of acoustic feedback is:<br />

We do not know of any other that has measured spikes this way before. Until now spikes only have been listening tested as far as we know. This is a way to try to measure the benefits in a way that makes it possible to show the results on paper. There can be inaccuracy because of unknown resonances and other unknown influence, but we are sure these results show how spikes reduce acoustic feedback.The influence of reducing the feedback at one frequency for another is not measured. Listening tests show that reducing feedback at low frequencies does have large influence on the sound quality at higher frequencies. The different models, threaded and self-adhesive have been tested. The results are so similar for the different models that it does not influence the curve. At 50Hz (the most important frequency to damp) we had a reduction of 11 dB, which means that appr. 95% of the feedback energy was stopped.</td>

<td>How it is designedAll Soundcare® spikes are spikes with a rounded tip (0,5 mm in diameter) standing in a crater with<br />

Load tolerances is only of theoretical interests. For standard spikes you can put 400 kg per spike, for the TITANIUM models even more.The Soundcare SuperSpike is an assembly of :<br />
An outer, sturdy, clean looking housing of ABS plastic (standard version) or polycarbonate (High-End version) (1).<br />
Spike made of first class case hardened steel (2).<br />
Zinc casing (3) that reduces resonances in the spike and is specially designed to hold the plastic housing when the equipment is lifted.<br />
Zinc disc (4) with a mild steel insert (5).<br />
Self adhesive felt disc made from 1,25mm quality felt with permanent fairly high coatweight tape.<br />
Double coated tape, 3M 9573 high performance permanent tape (only the self adhesive version).<br />

		<description><![CDATA[<p>Terje (founder of Soundcare) had formulated his idea of what the perfect spike should offer. The SuperSpike should be customized so that it is compatible with most products available, has the performance of a steel spike, does not damage the surface, and is easy to use. Terje developed the design of the SuperSpike and applied for patents. The most important part of the SuperSpike are the materials used in its manufacture. Many types of materials have been tried. Zinc was the best material for reducing the resonance. However, zinc is not strong enough to withstand the pressure from a small point and cannot be used on the mandrel itself. Steel was strong enough for the mandrel but had a high response. Brass was less resonant than steel, but steel is stronger.<br />
Brass tips can hold approximately 50kg in weight before the tip is deformed. Product design: After many tests, it was found that steel is the best substance for the mandrel (2). Zinc is pressed around the steel mandrel (3) to reduce the resonance. The steel mandrel is case-hardened and the tip is rounded by 0.5 mm for additional strength. The protective disc (5) is a mild steel insert with an angled crater and flat bottom to accommodate the mandrel surrounded by zinc (4). Mild steel was used in the base as the mandrel itself was intended to be the strongest part of the assembly. By placing the rounded end of the mandrel on the flat bottom of the crater-shaped insert, a very small contact point with extremely good strength is achieved. A weight test of approx. 400 kg was carried out for the SuperSpike. No change in the mandrel, housing or support disc was observed under a microscope.<br />
The spike made an impression of 2/100 mm in the mild steel crater insert (protective disc). This is such a small impression that it does not affect the functionality of the SuperSpike, and the exposure was extreme. If this load had been distributed over four SuperSpikes, the weight of the component would be over 1,600 kilograms (1.6 tons). The SuperSpike has also undergone an aging test that simulates the use of the SuperSpike over a period of ten years. This should ensure that the functionality of the mandrel does not change over time and during use. The results of the aging tests confirmed that the functionality of the SuperSpike has not changed over time or with use. All Soundcare SuperSpikes have a ten-year manufacturer's guarantee. The final part in the development of the SuperSpike was the plastic housing (1) that held the spike and protective screen together when the SuperSpike was not in use or on equipment. This is a molded piece of plastic that is attached to the base and has an inwardly facing lip that fits over an outwardly facing flange of the mandrel.<br />
This allows both parts to move freely (but as one unit) until the weight is applied. When loaded, the spike assembly centers itself in the crater of the protective disk without touching the plastic housing. The SuperSpike has been developed and tested. Four different thread models should be offered to fit most components currently on the market, as well as two models of unthreaded studs for electronic components and components without a threaded insert</p>

<p>What are Soundcare SuperSpikes?<br />
